COUNTRY HOUSE ARDENNES | 2022
Photography by Bo Balsing Ardennes, BE
In the middle of the Belgian Ardennes, a region in the south-east part of Belgium where history and scenic landscapes meet clarity, natural elements and peace, sets the of origin sixteenth century country house.
The leading source of inspiration for this project were nature and the cultural history of the building and the surrounding atmosphere. Adding to these factors were the slopes of the landscape, the rural style of the farm, the light, the softness but also the tougher, rough elements from the environment that come together in one landscape, the colors of the flowers and the beautiful weeping willow in the garden. Trying to convey the inspiration into the house, adjustments needed to be made to the lay-out, to create a more open atmosphere and a better connection to the nature, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior. The authenticity and intimacy of the original state of the country house has been kept intact, while comfort has been enhanced to create a luxurious cozy and intimate experience.
Overall, the country house has become a comfortable and rural living space, embracing nature. The renovation of this estate was all about creating a warm and inviting interior, where each space feels individual and a great sense of character, yet harmoniously interwoven.
