PENTHOUSE MAASTRICHT | 2018

Transforming from a nursing-home, into former 1960s office spaces towards a three-level concrete loft. The penthouse, one of Maastricht’s few high-rises, offers impressive scenic views over the city centre, combining one of the apartments on the 9th floor and both apartments on the 10th floor to create an incredible loft. All interior walls were demolished for the bare concrete structure base to become visible as a unique blank canvas.
Nicemakers conceptualized the penthouse as two separate spheres, each with its distinct ambiance. The lower situated floor serves as the welcoming area for visitors, containing a small pantry and lounge space. This floor exudes a more feminine sphere, characterized by an adapted, somewhat warmer 'salon' feeling. On the upper floor, the 'concrete feeling' prevails, with rough concrete surfaces visible throughout, including the elevator shaft, walls, ceiling, and sturdy columns. Glass sliding panels with textured glass surround the basalt stairwell, connecting both floors of the penthouse.
Many of the furnishings in the loft are vintage pieces sourced from international fairs, auctions, and galleries in Milan, Paris, Brussels, and New York. The result is a warm interior that, despite being recently completed, exudes a lived-in feeling.
