THE HOXTON AMSTERDAM | 2015

Situated in the city center of Amsterdam on the Herengracht, are five seventeenth-century canal houses formerly owned by the mayor at the time. The five buildings have been combined and transformed into the first Hoxton hotel outside of the UK in 2015. Captivating the essence of the city, Nicemakers were responsible for designing the 111 bedrooms, the circulation corridors, the reception, and the elevators.
The hotel bedrooms, named Shoebox, Cosy and Roomy have been developed into two interior concepts. Differentiating within the placement of the rooms. The four accommodations on the side of the Singel have been painted blue and are accentuated by headboards made of wood. Rooms viewing the Herengracht, have been highlighted by headboards made of leather and walls which are painted in two shades of green. The concept of the design for the bedrooms resonated with the feeling of stepping into a small studio on the canals. This is highlighted through the use of art pieces, alarm clocks, books, cans and small vases, to capture the domestic feeling.
‘In practice we discover that certain details are dependent on the certain space that they are placed in, resulting into that none of the bedrooms are exactly alike’
